Human vs Machine

Privacy

The short version: we keep your email address only if you ask for the weekly update, and you can leave any time.

Without signing up

Nothing personal. No account, no cookies, no analytics, no advertising and no third-party scripts or fonts. Each page load sends one anonymous health reading to our site monitor: how fast the page loaded, four yes/no checks (for example whether it loaded over HTTPS) and the page address without any query string. It carries no cookie, no name and no identifier for you.

If you sign up for the weekly update

We don't keep your name, and the emails have no tracking pixels. To stop abuse we briefly count sign-up attempts per network address; that count is a one-way scrambled value and is deleted automatically within two hours.

What we do with it

We send you a confirmation email, then one update a week. Nothing else. We never sell, rent or share your address. Emails are sent through Amazon Web Services (Amazon SES); your details are stored in AWS in New Zealand (Auckland), and the email service runs in Australia (Sydney). The site is served by Amazon CloudFront; we don't keep access logs.

Leaving

Every email has a one-click unsubscribe link, and it works straight away. If an email bounces permanently or is marked as spam, we stop sending to that address automatically.
